There is no doubt that the disastrous effects of carbon pollution from vehicle emissions is taking a devastating tole on our Earths atmosphere and resulting in Global Warming.  Automobiles in the United States emit over 333 million tons of CO2 each year, over 1/5 of the total US emissions.

While each Tesla on the road reduces carbon emissions by about 6 tons of CO2 each year, the impact of the Tesla Roadster goes far beyond the carbon footprint. 

The Tesla Roadster is an integral building block for the foundation of electric cars for everyone.

The Roadster is a very similar situation to the 1980s cell phones that were as large as laptop carrying cases; the size was big, the price was high- but ultimately it takes forward thinkers who can ultimately invest in the technology to push it forward, making it more sizable and cost efficient for everyone.

Now we can’t imagine a world without cell phones, and you can practically get one for free, but ultimately to reach that step for economy electric cars- it takes those who can afford to support the developing technology to buy a Roadster.

I am often asked,  "If Tesla Motors can build the Roadster, why haven't larger manufactures wanted to make Electric Vehicles or Plug in Hybrids until now?"

That is a great question, and the answer and theories are best addressed by the documentary: Who Killed The Electric Car.


While there are many theories on why larger auto makers have denied the probability and practicalities of Electric Vehicles, one thing is for certain- the Tesla Roadster is the primary reason larger auto makers are now following in Tesla Motor's footsteps.

Until now, electric cars have carried a nasty stigma: they are ugly, slow, and don't travel very far on a charge.  The Tesla Roadster blows away all preconceived notions of Electric Vehicles by being the quickest, longest traveling,  most luxurious, and most exciting production Electric Vehicle to date.  By looking at the exterior, one could hardly tell that the Roadster is even electric!

Among many reasons, the Tesla Roadster was decidedly the first car to go into production because the technology is still quite costly, and Tesla Motors could further develop the technology with a low volume sports car that could out perform vehicles in twice its price class.
